At the end of a busy day it\u2019s certainly relaxing when you can come \u2018home\u2019 and dine in a nearby restaurant, collect a meal from one of the takeaways or call at a neighbourhood shop and buy the ingredients for a meal to prepare in your kitchen. You have plenty of choice \u2013 and the price\/quality is excellent: the restaurants and shops serve the local population rather than tourists.<\/p>\n

You are a short walk from five restaurants, takeaways (Chinese, Thai, domestic caterer and a snack bar\/cafeteria), a supermarket (7 days a week until 10 pm), patisseries, a butcher, fishmonger and greengrocers\/domestic caterer, a pharmacist\u2019s, bars and outdoor caf\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

When you wish to dine out you can all at one of the following restaurants within a one to twelve-minute walk from our B&B (listed by increasing distance).<\/p>\n

\n a one-minute walk from the B & B. Housed in De Waakzaamheid, the oldest wooden catering building in the Netherlands which some years ago was featured in the \u2018The loveliest Dutch building\u2019 Dutch TV programme. The listed building, with a light-green exterior, has a double smuiger<\/em> (a tiled fireplace), a cheerful interior and a sunny outdoor seating area. We recommend that you book in advance. We will be pleased to make a reservation for you. Closed on Mondays.<\/p>\n

\u2018De Smuiger\u2019 restaurant<\/strong><\/a>

\n about a 5-minute walk, in a building restored taking account of its history. This wooden, listed building is painted in \u2018Zaans green\u2019. It has two lovely rooms furnished with an eye for detail, each with a smuiger<\/em> and an attractive outdoor seating area around the building that offers a view of a windmill. We recommend that you book in advance. We will be pleased to make a reservation for you.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2018De Hoop op d\u2019Swarte Walvis\u2019 restaurant<\/strong><\/a>

\n about a 10-minute walk, a convivial restaurant in a listed building with a rich history. On the banks of the River Zaan, in the famous De Zaanse Schans open-air museum. The tables are covered with white damask tablecloths. Outdoor seating area with a jetty, garden and pergola, with a marvellous view of the historic village of Zaandijk on the other side of the river. Closed on Monday.<\/p>\n

\n an informal \u2018pub\u2019, about a 12-minute walk. Housed in a wooden, listed building painted in \u2018Zaans green\u2019. This cheerful and convivial restaurant\/caf\u00e9 has a bar, outdoor seating area alongside the River Zaan and a comprehensive menu with something to everyone\u2019s taste.<\/p>\n<\/div>
